When beginning an abdominal workout routine, for most people the goal is simple: a flatter stomach. While a smooth, flat stomach looks good, it is less of an accomplishment if the the stomach muscles have not gained any strength. In addition to slimming down around the outer abdominals, it is also important to build strength in the core abdominals. Below are some stomach exercises that work out the core to build strong muscles throughout the abdomen. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.
Tone Your Torso
Begin this stomach exercise on all fours, knees and hands on the floor. Keep your stomach pulled in and extend your left arm out in front of you (football fans, imagine a referee signaling first down). Keep this arm outstretched as you extend your right leg out behind you. Switch arms and legs, and repeat for an entire set. Take particular care not to let your pelvis sway out of position.
Butt Burner
You will need to lie on your back for this exercise. Use a mat or towel to cushion your spine. Bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor, and position your arms at your sides. Squeeze your buttocks as you lift your pelvis off the floor. Keep the rest of your body in line. Raise your pelvis to about forty-five degrees, so your upper body from your head to your knees makes a straight, flat ramp. Hold this for three to five seconds before slowly lowering your pelvis back to the floor. Repeat for an entire set.
Crunchless Crunch
This stomach exercise is fairly simple in theory but can be fairly difficult to perform. Essentially, it involves trying to pull the belly button in towards the spine. This can be tricky, as it involves using muscles which you may not be used to activating. To start, either lie or on your stomach or kneel. You might want to try both ways and see which helps you feel the exercise better. Relax your body as much as possible, then try to use only the lower abdominals to move your belly button toward your spine. Hold for ten seconds. If this feels easy, hold for a longer period. The goal is to hold the contraction until you either cannot feel it, or you feel other muscles working harder than the transverse abdominus. When you feel this, let the contraction out.
Scissor Kicks
This stomach exercise also requires lying on the floor. Position your hands under your butt, keeping your back pressed against the floor. Slowly raise one leg to a height of about ten inches, then slowly lower it back to the floor. As your lower one leg, raise the other. Repeat this motion for an entire set. Maintaining control throughout is important, not allowing momentum to get the better of you. Your upper body should remain on the floor through the entire move.
These are just a few of all the strength building stomach exercises out there. If you are looking to build strength in your midsection, look for any exercise that works your core, especially the transverse abdominal muscles. Many components of Pilates are good for this also.

Any ideas on workouts/exercises to get a flat stomach & burn fat without going on a crazy crash diet?
I used to have a really flat and strong stomach but over the years i’ve been putting on quite a bit of fat on my stomach. As a dancer I do need to have a strong stomach so I was wondering if anyone has any workouts or exercises etc that burn off fat and help my stomach area. Also any ideas on specific foods which are good and healthy to burn off fat would also be welcome. Thankyou.
okey i get questions like this all the time! how can you u get a flat stomach without going on a crash diet?? great question. well first of all many people think that they can get a flat stomach by doing crunches. i tell you the truth you can do any type of core workout you can imagine all day and you will not get a flat sexy stomach. i know where you have been. i love dancing my self and i know how important core strength is. being a fitness expert now i can tell you that you can NOT spot reduce. many people try to spot reduce for example just doing sit ups to get a flat stomach and it never works. it has been proven time and time again that our body works as a whole. to get a flatter stomach you can ask any dietitian fitness model, fitness expert you will get the same answer. CARD IO! it would be so nice if we could just only target out core and lose that tummy but we cant. our whole body needs to be engaged. we cant chose where we will lose fat its all genetics. you cant say i wasn’t to lose my gut but keep my butt 100% where it is. everything will have to change. when you lose weight its all over. be you can target your midsection more to get a better result. did you know that its possible to have six packs abs but never be able to see them because there is a layer of fat covering it. amazing i know. so what you need to do is cardie mixed with core workouts. also a flat stomach is almost impossible with out the right foods. fad diets,crash diets,low crab,low fat,low protein diets never last long and most of them provide little or no results. our body needs food. its its fuel. so by starving your self you wont get a flat stomach you will Just slow down your metabolism and probably gain weight. to lose fat in your mid section you need to speed up your metabolism. how do you do that?? eating 5-6 small healthy meals per day and working out regularly. you dont have to run for 1 hour all day all you need is 30 minutes of cardio. swimming,biking,running,spriting,walking etc….
to get a nice stomach you need the proper diet and the proper exersice!!
now what you need to eat needs to be very balanced and healthy.
dont eat 3 large meals per day. eat 5-6 small meals per day.
breakfast,snack,lunch,snack,dinner,snack.
you need to eat tons of fruit and veggies and lower your carbs but dont eliminate them! cars are your energy source.
you want to eat a lot of protien like lean fish,eggs and nuts. almonds for example make a great snack. so heres a sample of what i eat to give you an idea of what you shoud be eating
also dont forget that out body is about 80% water so you need to drink at least 2 liters of water per day. its actually not that hard if you spread out the times when you drink it.
breakfast- 1 apple two egg whites and 20 oz water
snack- almonds and green tea
lunch -veggie salad with home made dressing (make sure you make your dressing. store baguht dressing are bad! i make my dresing with black pepper lemon and oilive oil.
snack-1 peach with 1 slice of whole wheat bread with all natrual peanut butter and water
dinner- small tilapia with stemaed brocoliie and lemon
snack- 1 canned tuna water
eating small 6 meals per day speeds up your metabolsim and helps you lsoe weight because you body doesnt go into starvation mode. you body will get sued to you feeding ti all the time so it wont want to hold on to fat it will jsut let it go and that way you lose the belly and thats what you want.
this is a great sample meals. you get your protien,carbs,and fruits and veggies,water!!
cut out all sodas from your diet they distroy you stomach. avoid fatty foods like any junk food. stick to home made meals and make sure your meals are small in size you dont need that much. drink plenty of water and eat tons fo veggies and fruits and you will look HOTT in no time. now you know what to avoid and you know exactly what and how often to eat. now to the workout plan!!!
for a fast easy flat stomach jogg for abotu 30 minutes per day 5 days a week and then lift weight 3 times a week which will tone you up and to get a stronger stomach work out your core every 2 days.
now you have nothing to complain about if you do waht i tell you you will lose wight and have a trim flat stomach in less than 1 month!!
as you can see this took pretty long to write lol so please take my advice. and live healthy and happy. you only get to live life once so go on out there and get healthy !!
